NC-17

Do you suppose this kid or his parents have any idea what his shirt says?

I think they do but they don't care. Or, like me, they are exasperated with the whole "hello kitty" horrible campaign !

The French don't understand just how offensive the F-word is to English speakers, it's that simple. In Quebec, French speakers use it freely and have given it a semantical extension : "c'est fucké" (which can mean anything from "it's screwed up" to "it's far out").

(If you want my opinion, Hello Kitty had it coming...;))

Agree with the Duchesse. The French know it's a bad word, but don't know where it sits on the spectrum of bad words. It's like the English and their use of "twat". To American ears, that words is very offensive. To the English, it's just like "silly".

LOL @ Duchesse & Rosabell. Hee hee! Poor Hello Kitty...

Swear words from language to language are probably the hardest things to really pin down as far as strength, connotation, use -- they are a minefield. Swearing is one of those things that is really pretty impossible to do in another language. It's best left alone, IMO, unless you are super-confident that what you are saying or writing is perfectly acceptable in the situation.

Nooowwww, where might I go about getting one of those hoodies? I kinda like it, lol. (It would have been more creative to stick the kitty head over the "UC" though.)

When my daughter was a pre-teen there were stores in the mall selling tiny t-shirts, for PRE-TEENS, that had 'porn star" written across the front. Who would buy such a thing?
Do the parent know, yes they do. They just don't have any class.

Considering how often one sees it, it's not likely they really understand. BTW, what is 'Hello Kitty'? I swear this is the first time I've ever seen or heard of it.

My favorite is walking into a baby gear store and being greeted by the hardcore gangsta rap blasting from the speakers. I mean the hardcore stuff. Nice. And it's not just one chain or one location.
Sorry for the late post - I'm just catching up and had to comment.
